Job Description

  • Head of Vietnamese Studies (HOV) reports to Principal and person in-charge of Operations of the respective schools. Responsible to oversee and manage implementation of Vietnamese curriculum for the Integrated Programme according to MOET and DOET policies.
  • In smaller schools, HOV will have a teaching role and must demonstrate quality / skillful teaching practices as a model for other teaching staff. The teaching component will depend on the school context with a teaching load of up to 0.5, subject to student enrolments and school complexity.
  • Demonstrate situational awareness in taking additional responsibilities assigned by Supervisors.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Establish and promote high standards and expectations for all Integrated students and staff for academic performance and behaviour.
  • Initiate, develop, drive / support the implementation of school values, goals and a school culture that conforms to the guidelines and expectations of the Management. Create and promote a learning environment for staff / students. Focus on student learning and performance.
  • Ensure that the operation and implementation of the Vietnamese curriculum conforms to MOET and DOET guidelines and policies.
  • Supervise instructional programmes for the Vietnamese curriculum, evaluate lesson plans, observe classes on a regular basis and do assessment to evaluate teachers’ performance.
  • Encourage the use of good teaching practice and a variety of instructional strategies consistent with the culture and values of the school.
  • Monitor and supervise the Integrated teaching staff and keep the Operations / Management informed of any performance issues.
  • Conduct in-house training to teachers to improve their teaching quality at least once per term during the school break.
  • Assist, support and participate in the implementation of school initiatives, functions, events to promote the school for the retention and recruitment of students.
  • Conduct Talks to parents to provide updates on school programmes and initiatives, promote parent school rapport, etc.
  • Source for competitions organized in Vietnam (including not only MOET, DOET, OoET competitions but other competitions organized by other reputable organisations) and implement / organise teachers to prepare students to participate and succeed in such competitions.
  • Establish a professional and respectful rapport with parents, students and staff and respond to enquiries and complaints in consultation with the School Principal.
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behaviour and standards when working with students, parents and staff.
  • Ensure that all school policies, systems, records and any other necessary documents required by Company / MOET / DOET are well implemented and maintained.
  • Update Principal and Operations on new regulations and laws issued by authorities.
  • Attend inspections, questions and visits by MOET / DOET or The Office of Education at District level and provide proper and appropriate information where required in consultation Principal / Operations / Management.
  • Be in-charge of concert items for Integrated classes.
  • Provide feedback to Management on any existing or potential problems at school to improve school operations.
  • Mentor newly recruited / promoted HOVs.
  • Welcome students and parents at drop-off (8.00am to 8.30am) and pick-up (4.00pm to 4.30pm). Time might be revised as per Principal’s arrangements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or higher Degree in Education.
  • Experience in Educational Management and understanding of the Vietnamese Education Programme.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills.
  • Respect for ethical and professional standards in work.
  • Having a Deputy Vietnamese Principal / Vietnamese Principal recognition is an advantage.
